Police now know how a jeep ended up in the Rivanna River.
They said the owner of the jeep was offroading and thought he could make it across the water. That didn't happen and the vehicle ended up stuck in the middle of the river.
Albemarle County Police said it is up to the owner to get his car out.
The story began unfolding Monday morning when a passenger on a train spotted the car off Polo Grounds Road.
The county said the rough terrain makes it impossible for a wrecker to get to the vehicle. The owner said he'll get friends to help.
