Increased Holiday Shoplifting

Just two days away from one of the busiest shopping days of the year. That means most will be taking to the department stores and unfortunately that includes thieves, just looking for you to leave a bag or purse unattended.

Police say this time of the year is the most important when it comes to making sure you keep an eye on all your bags and for ladies, purses. They warn not to leave a pocketbook in a shopping cart, and for those shopping bags, never throw them in a backseat in plain view of people walking by.

"There are people who go into stores just to look for this, just to watch for women's purses in shopping carts and we've seen them on video. They'll be right there just watching the people get up, put them under their jacket and they're gone out the door," Lt. Gary Pleasants of Charlottesville Police said.

Police also say it's good to make frequent trips to the car when you make several purchases and to put the bags in the trunk.
