One of the world's wealthiest musical acts in 2008 is from Charlottesville. The members of the Dave Matthews Band are the twelfth richest musicians according to online money magazine Forbes.com.
Forbes.com called the DMB one of the most prolific touring acts of the last decade, earning $47 million on the road in 2008. The Dave Matthews Band is now drumming up buzz for its first album in four years, Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King.
The band's saxophonist, LeRoi Moore, died last August from complications related to an ATV accident. The die-hard DMB fan base continues to bolster their bottom line, thanks to annual dues of the popular fan club, Warehouse, and merchandise sales.
Topping out the list of the wealthiest musicians in the world is Madonna, taking the number one slot.
