At a work session Wednesday, the board decided to take the ordinance to a public hearing. The ordinance would prohibit the shooting of a firearm near schools, businesses, parks, and neighborhoods. For homes in rural areas, the board would leave it up to them whether or not to individually petition to have their area included as well.
"I think there will be a difference of opinion between people who feel that the rural areas have areas where shooting should be restricted and other property owners, well there may not be a great deal of consensus in the rural areas," County Attorney Larry Davis said.
The public hearing has been set for sometime in March.
