Albemarle County pumped up patrol at several area shopping centers to help prevent car break-ins and robberies.
Operation safe holiday began around Thanksgiving, but this weekend, police say they typically see the biggest spike in crime.
“If you just see someone walking between cars, looking into windows, trying doors, usually people have good instincts if they just see someone and they don't really feel that they should be there or they are doing something that just doesn't feel right, trust your instincts and call 911, said Cpl. Michael Hintz with the Albemarle County Police Department.
Police also said if you want to store your purchases in your car, be sure to keep them out of sight. Try putting them in your trunk for example. They also said it's important to lock your doors.
