Three teens are behind bars Wednesday night, arrested in connection with a series of robberies and a burglary in the city.
Police said it was along Harris Street where a pizza delivery man, an elderly woman and another man became victims of these robbers.
Police have charged 18-year-old Jamale Ricardo Evans and two other teens. Police are not releasing their names because they are juveniles.
Charlottesville police detective Jim Mooney said the arrests were made Monday and Tuesday of this week for a number of incidents.
Those incidents include an August robbery of a domino’s pizza delivery man at gun point on Lodge Creek Circle.
Police then said the trio continued their crime spree robbing another man at gun point on Harris Street. And then on New Year’s Eve Evans allegedly beat and robbed a 62-year-old woman in the parking lot of the Affordable Suites Motel.
“She got out of her car to do some laundry there at the complex and she was beaten over head knocked to the ground and relieved of her purse,” said Mooney.
Police have also charged Evans with a burglary on Harris Street. They said the two other teens arrested were involved but not charged with all of the crimes.
“You know when you make three arrests at one time in one area that is significant especially to the people who live in that neighborhood. I’m sure there is a sigh of relief that there is some closure to these cases,” said Mooney.
All three are behind bars Wednesday.
Evans lived on Harris Street. Police said he was apparently preying on robbing his neighbors.
Robbery carries a maximum sentence of life in prison, if convicted.
