Thursday night, the Albemarle County School Board will begin its process of coming up with a redistricting plan to alleviate overcrowding at Crozet Elementary School.

Its first order of business is to finalize the timeline.

By next fall, a number of Crozet Elementary students could be going to a different school.

Right now, Crozet is already over-capacity and it will only get worst with more development.

According to the proposed timeline, within a week, officials will be able to determine how many students will need to be moved. The tricky part, then, is to figure out which students will need to be moved.

Officials will be looking at bus routes and school enrollment to determine this, with hopes to notify the affected families before spring break.

Also included in the timeline are transition activities in April, to help students get acclimated to their new schools.

"The staff has been meeting with the three principals involved, along with our community engagement office, to see how we can make the transition as smooth as possible," said executive director of support services Diane Behrens.

The staff will present its options to the public, for input, sometime in March.
