In 2006 the home of Thomas Jefferson saw a slight increase in visitors. Last year Monticello attracted 450,358 visitors, an increase of 246 over 2005's total.
While the increase was small it broke a negative trend in attendance. Daniel Jordan, president of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, says "we implemented many attendance related initiatives during the year."
Monticello has attracted more than 450,000 visitors for 27 years, which includes a 21 year span when attendance topped the 500,000 mark.
