Crews from the Orange Volunteer Fire Company took home first place honors from this year's statewide firefighting competition, extending their impressive streak to 11 victories in the past 12 years, the only slip-up being a second place finish in 2003.
The competition was held in Hampton, Va. and featured eight events, including ladder and dress challenges. Department Chief, Captain Jim Fitch, says the competition is something they take seriously every year.
"We take it pretty serious. We like to take our families and have a good time, but when it's time to compete, we go out and try to do our very best. We've just been lucky that we've won 11 out of the last 12 years," said Captain Fitch.
The Orange Volunteer Fire Company won the state competition with a total of 18 points. The second place team had 13 points.
