As the Presidential election nears candidates in both parties are looking to nab young voters using new media technology.
"Candidates want voters to perceive that they're forward thinking and that they're thinking about progress it's very important to them that their campaign show a very forward face" said David Wasserman, UVa Center for Politics.
E-campaigning isn't anything new. It's been used for the past decade, but it's importance since the last presidential election is apparent as candidates who want to run have decided to increase their web presence using their websites to host blogs, show their life story, and even chat with the American public.
Hillary Clinton used her website to host live video chats three nights a week.
"Candidates see a new opportunity to earn media that they don't have to pay for on tv" said Wasserman.
And it's that media that is helping politicians to reach a younger demographic as well as other benefits.
"They love money, they need money to fuel their campaigns and they realize that now a days with the click of a button they can send out an email, we call them blast emails in politics, to hundreds of thousands of people they perceive to be supporters on their list" said Wasserman.
Hillary Clinton has already signed up 150,000 supporters on her website and she's just one the many candidates utilizing the web.
"John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, just to name a few, have especially strong web presences and that's crucial in this day and age" said Wasserman.
