Firefighters were called to a fire in Albemarle County around 9:30 Thursday night at Baton's Auto Garage.
It happened on the 2100 block of Avon Court, just off of Avon Street Extended north of the I-64 overpass.
Authorities say no one was in the building at the time, and that none of the three nearby homes were damaged.
A call for smoke in the area came into the city around 9:30pm. A short time later city crews located the fire. That's when five fire departments, and the Charlottesville-Albemarle County Rescue Squad responded.
Firefighters were still working to get the flames out nearly two hours after the first call came in. Fire Chief Dan Eggleston said once the fire was out, investigators would begin working to determine a cause. They are focusing their investigation on a battery charging operation that was going on near where the fire started.
Fire officials also added that no hazardous fumes resulted from the fire.
The fire caused about $100,000 in damage.
