Albemarle County Budget Still Facing Issues

March 19, 2007

The Albemarle county board of supervisors discussed the county budget at a meeting today.

The main issue is still property tax rates. Increased assessments have many people calling for a rate reduction, but others are concerned it would mean less money for schools, and public services.

Supervisors say yet another area of concern comes from outside the county.

"I think it's important the people understand that our budget includes a huge amount of state and federal mandates, and those mandates increase year by year" said Dennis Rooker, supervisor.

Officials hope to have the tax rate and the budget finalized and approved by April.
