Albemarle County and School Budget Meeting

March 21, 2007

This was the final session to discuss the county budget and the possibility of lowering the property tax rates. Supervisors asked the school board how they would deal with less revenues and what programs and services would be impacted in the schools.

"The school board feels that some of their new initiatives are important to maintain, but that they would see because of the size of their workforce the number of people that they employee that there could be some impacts on raises, salary increases, and on number of employees in the school division if the tax rate were to be lowered," said Lee Catlin, County Communications Manager.

The board will decide if they want to decrease the tax rate and from there a public hearing will be held.
