March 22, 2007

Democratic Presidential candidate John Edwards held a news conference in North Carolina Thursday to announce that his wife's cancer has returned.

Elizabeth Edwards underwent treatment for breast cancer after the 2004 Presidential campaign. At the conference Edwards explained that Elizabeth felt pain in her side and went to the doctor. A bioposy was done on her rib, showing the return of the cancer.

Elizabeth's doctor, Dr. Lisa Carey, says the cancer could be in other organs but not to a significant degree and that the cancer could not be eradicated only shrunken.

Despite her condition Edwards said that he would continue his campaign for the the Democratic Presidential nomination. The couple says that they are optimistic. Edwards said he and his wife discussed it and that they would continue to fight for what they believed in.

"The campaign goes on. The campaign goes on strongly" said Edwards.
