Virginia Tech Vandals

April 2, 2007

Sculptures of the Hokie Bird mascot are not safe near Virginia Tech's campus. Police are investigating at least two bird vandalisms.

Sometime over the weekend, vandals shattered a fiberglass version of the mascot outside a day care.

About a week earlier another bird, this one in front of Blacksburg Town Hall, was chopped off at the knees and stolen.

This is no petty crime. The birds are worth an estimated $7,500.

Gobble de Art placed birds painted by local artists on display
around town over the summer. Several of the birds have been bashed or vandalized since the project began in May.
