Investigation Exposes Prostitution in Charlottesville

Ten people are being charged with prostitution, a Class 1 misdemeanor, in Charlottesville.

The Charlottesville Police Department conducted an investigation from November 1st through November 4th, looking into alleged prostitution activity on an online social networking site. Police would not specify the name of the web site.

Police reviewed advertisements that suggested the selling of sexual services. Police say they had fieldeld complaints from residents upset about the ads.

The nine women and one man arrested on the prostitution charges were released with pending court dates in the Charlottesville General District Court.

Charlottesville Police say they continue to monitor and address this type of illegal activity using a variety of investigative methods.

Police say the following people have been arrested:

Danita Natasha Campbell, 31, from Charlottesville
Ebony Luanina Faulkner, 30, from Charlottesville
Makeda Nia Griffin, 20, from Charlottesville
Christina Gale Harper, 29, from Charlottesville
Susan Viviana Hill, 25, from Charlottesville
Jessica Ann Shifflett, 24, from Charlottesville
Shirley Newton Deese, 55, from North Carolina
Jessica Hancock Hollins, 24, from Louisa
Mary Catherine Mayne, 22, from Faber
John Andrew Jackson Jr., 22, from Charlottesville.
