Virginia Unemployment Rate Falls in March

May 2, 2007

The Virginia unemployment rate fell slightly in March to 3.1 percent. The Virginia Employment Commission says the jobless rate was 3.2 in January and February.

The March rate was still well below the national average for unemployment which is 4.5 percent. According to the VEC, the slight fall was because of seasonal hiring in hospitality and construction industries.

Among Virginia's cities and counties, Arlington County had the lowest unemployment rate at 1.8 percent. Martinsville had the highest unemployment rate at 8.6 percent.
