Region Ten Opens House for Troubled Teens

May 9, 2007

Region Ten has opened a new recovery house for teens coping with emotional problems. The six-bed unit will help patients who can't get immediate help at a hospital or other treatment program.

The house helps with psychiatric care, counciling and teaches patients how to deal with stressful situations. Organizers say that it's important and sometimes difficult to get treatment for mental health.

"One of the problems is there has been so much stigma around mental illness and people don't talk about it and programs like this don't get funded and so programs like this aren't available," said Wellness Recovery director Mark Farrington.

The program also offers yoga and acupuncture as treatments.
