A Bryn Mawr college student is leading an effort to raise scholarship money to honor those lost in the Virginia Tech tragedy.
Sarah Khasawinah is hoping to raise $320,000 from colleges across Pennsylvania to honor the 32 victims. Khasawinah is trying to raise $10,000 for each victim by selling T-shirts on Pennsylvania campuses and through Facebook.com.
Khasawinah has organized a group called the Virginia Tech Solidarity Project in order to raise money at the 139 colleges and universities in Pennsylvania. The $10 T-shirts are maroon and orange with the logos of the participating Pennsylvania schools and the message United.
The company printing the shirts is doing it free of charge. The group must sell more than 53,000 shirts in order to reach its goal. The money will go toward the $100,000 endowed scholarship fund that Virginia Tech plans to raise for each victim.
