JABA Honors Volunteers at Luncheon

May 18, 2007

The Jefferson Board of Aging got a chance to thank all their volunteers for their efforts in the community at a luncheon Friday morning.

It was an opportunity to honor the hundreds of people who spend their time volunteering through JABA throughout the year. The volunteers spend time in local nursing homes talking with residents, delivering meals and tutoring,

Friday was a chance for JABA to let the volunteers know that they appreciated their efforts.

"It's throughout the whole community that people can make a difference by volunteering through JABA," said Marguerite David, manager of volunteer services.

"Well, volunteering for me has become a way of life over the past ten years, but I got involved in JABA first by being an employee," said 2007 Volunteer of the Year Bessie Williams.

Williams was honored to receive Volunteer of the Year recognition, and she says that although she wasn't expecting to win, she was very humbled by the award.
