Mother Charged in Son's Near Drowning

May 27, 2007

Albemarle County Police say the mother of that six-year-old boy who nearly drowned at a county pool is behind bars and she's being charged with felony child neglect.

This all stems from an incident that happened around 5:30 Saturday evening at the Barracks West Apartments swimming pool.

Authorities say some people at the pool saw the child in the water who was unconscious and not breathing.

They were able to pull the boy from the water and began giving him CPR.

The boy six-year-old started breathing again.

The boy was taken to UVA medical center for further treatment.

As of Sunday, police aren't releasing that mothers name, but she will be at the Charlottesville Albemarle Regional Jail at least until Tuesday when shell go before the judge for a bond hearing.

Police say that the father of that child could also be facing charges in this case, but authorities need to consult with the Commonwealth's Attorney on Tuesday before any charges can be filed.
