Charlottesville police are searching for a gunman involved a shooting early Saturday morning. No one was injured, but police found nine shell casings in a parking lot on South Street. Police said five bullets hit a car while the driver was inside, and one bullet went into an apartment.

Michael Allenby has been living in downtown Charlottesville for the last six years. He said Saturday morning Charlottesville police knocked on his door to say there had been a shooting on South Street.

Police asked to search his apartment because they thought one of the shots had gone through his window. The bullet had gone through the front window and put a hole in the kitchen wall.

Allenby said you would never expect something like this to happen in a small town like Charlottesville, and it has him thinking about leaving the city.

Witnesses tell police that the gunman was driving a white car, but right now, that is about all the information that they have.

Anyone who has any information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000.
