Residents of River Run in Charlottesville held a potluck lunch in Pen Park on Saturday to raise awareness for their cause: preserve Pen Park.

They are against a proposed a city council measure that would build the eastern connector right through the park.

"In this time of all this growth and development in Charlottesville, Albemarle County, we need to preserve our areas where we can go for relaxation and tranquility," said Sarah Hendley, who lives in River Run.

River Run residents have collected more than 1,000 signatures against the connector.
