According to Live Arts in Charlottesville, Paramount Pictures and the Coen Brothers are holding an open casting call in Charlottesville for an upcoming feature film called "True Grit!" It's a remake of the classic Western.
In Charlottesville, they're casting for the lead role, a 14-year-old girl named Mattie Ross. The film would start shooting in the spring of 2010. They're looking for a 12-16 year old girl who is "tough, strong, and tells it like it is."
According to the press release, acting experience is not necessary.
Hollywood actors Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are in talks to star in the upcoming remake of the classic western, according to Variety Magazine.
Jeff Bridges reportedly already has been chosen to fill John Wayne's boots as the film's hard-drinking, tough-talking hero, U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn, who is hired by a spunky 14-year-old girl to find her father's killer.
Damon is in talks to play the lawman who helps them out, while Brolin is up for the role of the killer, Variety said.
Auditions will be held Sunday, December 6th at the Live Arts in downtown Charlottesville from 1:00-5:00 pm. Those auditioning are asked to bring a current picture with you, and are asked to bring only themselves and one other family member.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTION:
14-year-old Mattie is a simple, tough as nails young woman. Her steely nerves and straightforward manner are a shocking contrast to the way women behaved in the early century. She's possessed of true grit and plenty of determination. Enough so, that she insists on going with two marshals to hunt down the killer of her father.
