A weekend house fire has killed the husband of the director of the Carter Family Fold.
Officials say three volunteer fire departments responded to the fatal house fire early Sunday near Hiltons. The fire killed Bob Forrester, the 61-year-old husband of Rita Forrester, and destroyed the home.
The Forresters' home stood next door to the home of the late Janette Carter, Rita Forrester's mother and the founder of the Carter Fold, a music venue where Saturday night shows have been staged since 1976.
The Carter Family was discovered at Bristol, Tenn., in 1927.
