Brownies Collect Goods for Soldiers

June 9, 2007

A local Girl Scout troop is hard at work for soldiers who have served overseas.

Brownie Troop 145 has teamed up with UVa men's basketball coach Dave Leitao.

They are asking members of the community to donate items for wounded soldiers currently housed at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, DC.

So far, the second graders have raised more than 800 items, but they say that's just not enough.

"We're going to help Walter Reed Hospital, and it's for evacuated soldiers that came to the hospital without nothing, and we're donating stuff so they can have stuff," said Emily Peery, a brownie.

For more information or if you would like to donate, you can contact the Girl Scouts of the Virginia Skyline.
