Members and friends of South Plains Presbyterian Church knitted more than 1,800 baby caps.

The caps will be sent to the Medical Benevolence Foundation. From there, they'll go to mission hospitals around the world.

They're headed to hospitals where there is no heat to keep newborns warm.

Pat Valentine, who is involved with mission work at the church, says the number of infant deaths from hypothermia is enormous and a cap can save a baby's life.

In addition to caps, the church is also sending teddy bears and baby gowns.
