With 250 thousand hybrids and alternative-fuel vehicles on the road, Virginians are in the passing lane when it comes to seeking cheaper transportation fuels.
The Alliance for Automobile Manufacturers reports Virginia ranked 11th nationally in 2006 for the number of hybrid and alternative-fuel vehicles on the road. As for hybrids, the state ranks behind only California.
According to the study, nearly 240 thousand hybrid and alternative-fuel vehicles took to Virginia roads in 2006. That's a 21 percent increase from the year before.
As a nation, hybrid and alternative-fuel vehicles on the roads increased by 1.5 million to 10.5 million last year.
