Charlottesville has been awarded grants to improve walking and bicycle trails for VDOT's Safe Routes to School project.
The money will be used to improve conditions for walking and bicycling to and from area schools. Buford Middle School will receive $359,000, which will fund sidewalks, fencing, intersection safety improvements, lighting, and other needs.
Venable Elementary School will receive $11,600 to build a path connecting the new gate at the Hope House to the school staircase by the school’s athletic fields.
