An award-winning Hip-Hop artist spent Friday afternoon at Charlottesville’s Music Resource Center to motivate city youth.
His name is Al Kapone and his work was featured on the Oscar-winning movie “Hustle and Flow.”
“My manager had told me about what was going on here and about doing something for the kids, So I actually was supposed to fly out today, but I told them I got to do this,” said Kapone.
He tells us when he was younger and dreaming of making it in the music world it would have meant the world to him to be able to meet someone who made it big.
Kapone said, “Any opportunity I have to talk to the younger generation about my experience in the music business, but all means I try to be there.”
Brandon and Bryan Waller are brothers who say Kapone’s message was encouraging and educational.
Officials with the Music Resource Center say they were excited for the kids to meet someone of that caliber and its days like today that make their mission a reality.
“You know, if you stick to it and you really follow a discipline, eventually you can become somebody in the community, and more importantly you can achieve your dreams and that's really what its all about here, is showing kids how to reach their dreams,” said Fritz Berry, President of the Center.
Kapone’s message: Do what you love to do no matter what it is. But always have a back up plan and never do it for the money.
The mission of the music resource center is to educate and inspire urban youth and through music-- equip them with life skills for the future.
