A fifteen-year-old suspect is in custody after a Charlottesville neighborhood hears commotion and calls police.

Just before four a.m. Tuesday morning police raced to the 1500 block of Broad Avenue to find neighbors had stopped an alleged thief.

Four cars had been broken into when neighbors say they were awoken by the sound of breaking glass.

One neighbor chased after the suspect who was carrying a stolen 40 caliber hand gun.
Police say he had taken it from a car at a different location.

The suspect is a fifteen-year-old male. He said he was stealing things like iPods, wallets, watches, and purses to sell so he could buy new tennis shoes.

He is currently being held and charged in a Juvenile Detention facility.
