Suspicious White Substance Found At Charlottesville Post Office

July 02, 2007

The Charlottesville Post Office on Seminole Trail has reopened after shutting down Monday morning because of a suspicious white substance.

A janitor found the substance on the counter around 6:30 a.m. Monday morning.

After closing the building hazardous materials crews tested the substance, not allowing anyone inside the building.

Initial tests on the substance came back negative. The substance has been sent a lab in Richmond for conclusive tests.

Officials say, they've isolated two people who may have been exposed to it. According to the postmaster the substance appears to have been glucose based.

Officials will continue to observe the substance over the next 48 hours.
