Miguel Martinez de la Cruz said his son, a 27 year-old Hispanic male, was the victim of a stabbing in Albemarle County Sunday.
Police were called to the area around the Southwood Market.
The victim's father explained what happened.
"My son was coming here to get some sodas and he has problems with that guy, the man was following him and then he pulled a blade," said de la Cruz.
Right now police do not know what happened between the two men, and they are not sure about a motive for the stabbing.
"We don't know exactly. There were some aquaintences that ran into each other and an altercation ensued. There is no known history between the two of them, and it just seems to be a random event," said Cpl. Steve Wilkins of the Albemarle County Police Department.
However, de la Cruz said his son was trying to avoid the situation.
"My son said,'I don't want any trouble, I don't want any problems,'" said de la Cruz.
De la Cruz said his son was cut on the chest, head, and face with some sort of blade.
Albemarle Police said the victim only had minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital. Right now police are not prepared to release information about the suspect they are looking for yet.
Police said they do not have anyone in custody and their investigation is ongoing.
A clerk working at the market at the time of the stabbing said she went outside and saw the suspect run up a hill behind the store.
Right now he is still on the run.
