In interviews with "Meet The Press" and "ABC's This Week", Democrat Jim Webb and Republican John Warner both agreed that changes need to be made to the Iraq war strategy.
"We have reached a point where we have to come together as a congress and attempt to bring some order into this," said Webb.
Warner went as far as suggesting a deadline for a new plan.
On Friday, Warner, along with Senator Lugar from Indiana, proposed legislation that would give President Bush until mid-October to come up with a new strategy that would limit the military's role in Iraq.
"We can hopefully come together in the Congress and revise that resolution so that our forces fighting and the world can see this clear support between the Congress and the president's mission," said Warner.
Warner is asking Bush to present the plan to Congress on the anniversary of the war.
However, some Senate Democrats haven't warmed up to the idea, saying the plan is too lenient on the Bush Administration.
"Four years into the war, you have to be able to put some rational limits on how our troops are being used. We've got soldiers and Marines right now who are spending more time in Iraq than they are in the states. The executive branch is not speaking up. Congress has the constitutional power to do so, and that's what we are trying to do," said Webb.
Warner described the military as overstretched and says there is a shortage of citizens joining in the last two months. These factors only hurt the progress in Iraq, he said.
The Senate will vote on the Warner-Lugar plan later this week.

prior poster seemd to be advocating a blanket bombing of iraq! this is "operation iraqi freedom" not "operation halliburton theiving" OR IS IT? theres no prize to be won from this illegal war! bring them home now!
We need more Patton and less patent leather. The only way to fight a war is "total war" like we did in WW2. Unfortunately, when PC Liberals and politicians get involved this is what happens. Congress to quit screwing around and either cut the funding or let them fight.
Give the troop surge a chance. It is also reported that the USAF has successfully surged it's in-country operations as well. Realize that it has only been 30 days since dealing with the logistics of mobilizing a surge. Focus on the positive aspects of the "report card on Iraq"
