"Community Hug" Planned For Vick

July 27, 2007

Friends, family, and community leaders in Newport News plan to hold a "community hug" for Michael Vick Friday night.

The Reverend Marcellus Harris says the community wants to emphasize Vick's right to due process and that the rush to judge him is premature.

Vick, who grew up in Newport News, was arraigned in federal court Thursday for allegations that he participated in an illegal dogfighting operation. Harris says several community leaders and longtime friends of Vick will attend and are expected to speak on his behalf.

It still is unclear on whether or not Vick will attend.
