Jeepology: Deciphering the Codes

It's hard enough to remember the model names car manufacturers put out for their vehicles, but for Jeep owners, it can get even more complex. Many Jeep owners prefer to refer them by their vehicle manufacturer codes.

According to Bob Feldmaier from Jeep, "Jeep owners tend to be a little unique in terms of identifying the code name of their vehicle in terms of that particular model."

Friday at "Camp Jeep" being held in Nelson County, VA, Lynchburg Jeep Owner Raleigh Hammock tells us, it depends on how close a friend he's talking to. Hammock admits the codes can get confusing.

Michael West of Charlottesville is taking his CJ to Camp Jeep for the first time, he only refers to it as a CJ. Below is a list of some of the commonly referred to models of Jeep.

YJ Jeep Wrangler Models 1987-1995
TJ Jeep Wrangler Models 1997-2005
JK Jeep Wrangler Models 2007-present
ZJ Jeep Grand Cherokee Models 1993-1998
XJ Jeep Wagoneer and Cherokee Models 1984-2001
KJ Jeep Liberty Models 2002-present
WJ Jeep Grand Cherokee Models 1999-2004
SJ Jeep Grand Wagoneers 1963-1992
