Over 1,000 C'Ville Residents Without Power Sunday Afternoon

July 29, 2007

More than 1,000 people in Charlottesville were without power Sunday afternoon.

Authorities say a rotten telephone pole gave way and brought power lines down with it.

The pole came down around 12:30pm Sunday along Avon Street near the Charlottesville-Albemarle Regional Jail.

No one was hurt in the collapse, but it took crews a few hours to fix the problem.

Dominion Virginia Power says all but two of the homes affected were expected to get power back by 7:00pm Sunday night.
