Fatal Accident On Interstate 64

August 16, 2007

State Police are at the scene of a fatal accident on Interstate 64. It happened at mile marker 99 just west of the Crozet exit. A vehicle reportedly overturned and ejected one person near the scenic overlook.

Authorites say the victim was a young female from Waynesboro traveling east on Interstate 64. Officials say a preliminary investigation shows that the tire of the victim's car separated from the car, causing the victim to lose control. Speed does not appear to have been a factor.

Traffic on the westbound and eastbound lanes has reportedly not been affected on Interstate 64.

We have a crew at the scene and will update this story as soon as we get new information.
