The court hearing scheduled Thursday for Nathan Antonio Washington has been delayed.
It appears Washington did not retain an attorney until late Wednesday afternoon. The attorney requested that the hearing be postponed.
Nathan Antonio Washington was scheduled to appear in both Albemarle County and Charlottesville General District Courts Thursday morning.
This is Washington's first court hearing since his arrest Monday on charges of attempted rape in Albemarle county and rape in the city of Charlottesville.
That hearing postponed until his newly retained attorney Rhonda Quagliana could get up to speed. Quagliana released this statement on behalf of the Washington family:
"At this time, not all is known about the allegations against Mr. Washington. We hope the community will be sensitive to the circumstances of his family, particularly these young children. Mr. Washington is presumed innocent. We ask that judgement about his guilt be withheld until all the facts are known."
And outside the court house Commonwealth's Attorney Jim Camblos revealed just a little bit more about the facts in this case. When asked if he had DNA evidence in the county case today he responded affirmatively.
"Yes!" said Camblos. And a reporters asks? "Does it match the other five?" "Lets just say a judical officer felt like there was probably cause to go forward with the charges on the Webland case" said Camblos.
Washington's hearing now rescheduled for next Thursday at 9am.
