Police discovered the bodies of an Alleghany man, and his three daughters over the weekend after they were all fatally shot.
Officials say 41-year-old Edward Sims Jr. fatally shot his three daughters as they slept, then killed himself. Sims was recently separated from his wife.
Police discovered the bodies of Sims and his daughters, 17-year-old Britney Sims, 14-year-old Amber Sims, and 8-year-old Morgan Sims Monday morning after the girls' mother called police, worried that she hadn't heard from them.
Inside the home, police discovered a .380-caliber handgun alongside the bodies. Each of the victims had been shot in the head. Alleghany County Sheriff Dale Muterspaugh says the children were asleep at the time of the shootings and they were found in separate rooms.
Britney Sims was a senior at Alleghany High School, where she played softball. Amber Sims was an eighth grader at Clifton Middle School and she had begun trying out Friday for the school's volleyball team. Morgan Sims was a third grader at Mountain View Elementary School.
