Increase In Enrollment Expected At State Colleges

September 11, 2007

The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia show that more than 425,000 in-state students are expected six years from now. That's a 14% increase by 2013.

Community colleges are expected to account for nearly 200,000 of those students. The report says Virginia's four-year colleges are planning for 19% growth during the same period, so it doesn't look like access will be a problem.

The council's projections are used to help develop the state budget for higher education. Projections aren't made on out-of-state students because they don't drive state higher education funding.
