State Republicans and Democrats Making Promises As Election Nears

September 19, 2007

Sparkling new schools, better health care and more generous benefits for the state's military veterans.

All those promises are flowing from Republican and Democratic legislative leaders with this year's legislative elections seven weeks away.

On Wednesday, House and Senate Republicans promised new money
for public school construction this year. That was just four hours after House Democratic leaders pledged expanded life insurance and counseling benefits as well as tax breaks for military veterans.

Continued Republican control of the state Senate is on the line in November, and Democrats are taking aim at some Republican House
seats.
