More than two million Virginians are expected to hit the roads for the holidays.
AAA is predicting around 2.7 million people will travel 50 miles or more between December 22nd and January 1st.
This is a four percent increase over the historic average, but roughly 900 short of the record-setting numbers of 2010/2011 season.
“The fact that the number of Virginians expected to travel this year-end exceeds the decade high average by four percent illustrates the importance of being with loved ones for the holidays, regardless of a struggling economy,” said Martha Mitchell Meade, Manager of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic. “The recovery rate of the number of holiday travelers has once again out-paced the economic recovery.”
AAA expects nearly 151,000 Virginians to travel by air, which is a 3.2 percent increase.
