APCo Continues Restoration Efforts after Storm

January 19, 2013

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - Appalachian Power says it is working to restore power to thousands of customers who lost power after this week's winter weather.

The first significant winter storm of the season arrived late Thursday and continued into early Friday, leaving the greatest snow depths in the southern and western part of the state.

The electric company says outages in its service area peaked at about 128,000 customers. It serves about 500,000 customers in Virginia.

More than 52,650 customers remained without power as of Saturday afternoon.

Appalachian Power said Saturday that the restoration would be a multiday effort, with some customers in Southwest Virginia possibly without power until Tuesday.
