Albemarle Country Executive Tom Foley presented the recommended 2013-2014 county budget to the Board of Supervisors on Thursday.

This year’s budget is up $7.2 Million from last year.

Highlights from the proposal include support for capital projects like completing the Crozet library and a police firing range.

The proposal allows funding for schools to add a school resource officer as well as removal of their obligation to pay for buses.

Foley says this budget strengthens the county’s core services, such as public safety training, welfare agencies and four new police officers.

Foley believes Albemarle County has emerged from the recession and is looking to the future.

"With a modest increase in revenues, and due to the improved economy coupled with these expenditure reductions, it's allowed us to do some forward thinking things in this budget and we're proud at what we were able to accomplish."
