Albemarle County took a moment Friday to honor police officers that advocate for traffic safety in our area.
Officers who focus on speed enforcement, seat belt use, and DUI enforcement were recognized during a ceremony today at the police headquarters.
The Chief's Eagle Award, the highest award given, went to Officer Robert McCormick for his dedication to traffic safety for kids.
"One of the programs was a bicycle helmet program we came up with and we've given out thousands of bicycle helmets out to kids in the county," said Officer McCormick. "A second was a program that we gave booster seats away."
Police Chief Steve Sellers says, per capita, Albemarle Co. is one of the most dangerous places when it comes to drivers and roads. Therefore, the police department is focusing on safety and prevention.
