Albemarle Co. to Hold Citizens Fire Rescue Academy

Aug. 12, 2014

If you've ever wondered what life was like for Albemarle County Fire Rescue, this coming fall you have the chance to see for yourself.

The Citizens Fire Rescue Academy offers hands-on learning about being a part of the rescue squad, as well as how the emergency communications center and dispatch operates.

“Members of the class will be able to participate, they will get to pick up the jaws of life, they will actually be able to move metal on a car, they'll be able to cut a roof off, they'll go for a ride in the bucket truck. It's just a lot of hands-on. They'll have a night to try on turn out gear and a breathing pack. Everybody see the fire department going up and down the road but they never had the opportunity to try that stuff on before, and they get to see what it's like,” says Gilbert Monroe with Albemarle Co. Fire Rescue.

The academy begins Thursday. September 4.
