Athletes Help 'Squash Cancer' During Day-Long Tournament

November 17, 2013

The Women's Committee of Martha Jefferson Hospital hosted its second-annual "Squash Cancer" tournament.

Teams were signed up for $50 to play at the McArthur Squash Center at the Boar's Head Sports Club from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Proceeds from the tournament go toward supporting the breast health screening days at Martha Jefferson Hospital. Those screenings can help with early breast cancer detection.

“We have had some women who have been called back after our screening days for some additional screening and we have caught some cases of breast cancer,” says Sharon Greene, chair of the Squash Cancer tournament. “So it's an important service.”

Martha Jefferson holds breast health screenings twice a year.
