Attorney Gen. Proposes New Training for Law Enforcement

June 28, 2013

Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli is proposing to fund law enforcement training for responding to crisis situations involving the mentally ill.

Cuccinelli wants to give $800,000 to the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, to help law enforcement officers to better handle people with mental illness.

He says this will help ensure the safety of the officers, and will get mentally ill individuals the proper care they need.

The grant money would come from settlement money earned in the Medicaid fraud investigation Cuccinelli's Office led against Abbot Laboratories.
