Friday was supposed to be the day the Barrett Early Learning Center closed its doors for good, but thanks to donations and community support, the kids got to hold a graduation ceremony instead.
Seventeen students graduated on Friday, and they could have been the last.
"It could have been a sad day, but it's a happy day." says Eunice Garrett, a teacher at Barrett Early Learning Center.
The front gate was set to close for good, but instead, they celebrated the future of the graduates, and the school.
"So thankful for all the children who are to come to Barrett, that the doors are still open. It's just a blessing and I am so happy." says Garrett.
Clayt Lauter watched his second child, Eli, graduate on Friday and is glad his next youngest will be able to do the same. In fact, Lauter has had children graduate from Barrett 3 out of the past 4 years.
"The sheer love they have for these kids is remarkable, and really unique." says Lauter of the staff.
Barrett can boast 80 years worth of graduates, and now they can hope to have 80 more.
"Even though my grandson is graduating, I don't have anyone else here but I'm going to continue to still be a force for Barrett." says one proud grandmother.
The kids getting in on the act, with one recent graduate saying she wished she could have donated to help save the school, "...but you have to be 18 or older."
